"Sometimes a song can just be about sitting with your emotions..."
We just released our latest single, "Not Coming Home," recorded at the renowned Rancom Street Studios in Botany, NSW, Australia. This track, written by James Mackay, produced in house by the Hot Potato Band team, recorded by the talented Dan Frizza, mixed by our very own Ben Goldstein & mastered by our very own Paul Murchison, encapsulates our continued sonic exploration of acoustic instrumentation.
'Not Coming Home' dips into the idea of experiencing problems you can’t solve. Hot Potato Band wanted to recognise that sometimes a song can just be about you sitting with your problems and your emotions. In this case it’s possible that even one's self might be the problem.
It's a song about feeling deeply alone, even when your friends or family might be supportive of you. The sentiment of the song is the desire to run away, maybe even break contact forever, and no one can stop you from imagining your escape to a new home.
Within the bridge of the song, we question whether an escape is actually freeing, and once truly alone, seeing the value and warmth in your old home.
"During the writing process it actually took a lot of discipline to not give the song a happy ending or offer listeners any answers other than ‘yeah, I feel like this sometimes too’" - James Mackay
We’re inviting you to experience "Not Coming Home" available now on all streaming platforms.
